Cecelia Dawson

State Director, BM&E

Sister Cecelia Dawson is a mother, baby sister, aunt, niece, confidant, encourager and friend. 

At the age of 11 years old, confession to Jesus as Lord and Savior was made. A true believer of Christian and higher education, community service and helping others, she has the privilege of working with many churches, groups, and individuals.  Her guiding principle is, “That when I die, it mattered that I lived.” Dean Dawson is current State Director of Christian Education for the BM&E State Convention. She is a member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church, Detroit, where her Pastor is Dr. Wallace R. Mills, Jr.

Jheri Draves


Dean Jheri Draves is a wife mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and aunt; a believer of Christian education, and of spreading the good news of Jesus Christ.


She is a member of Historic Second Baptist Church where she serves as Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, and Mission member.  Jheri is currently Dean of Records for Second Baptist Christian Leadership Institute and an Associate Dean for Saginaw Valley Baptist District Congress of Christian Education.


“At a young age I found Jesus as my Lord and Savior. If I can help someone along the way, then I have done as Jesus Christ has commanded.”

Denise Gipson-Tyiska

Dean Denise Gipson-Tyiska considers herself to be a “servant leader” who is “On the Battlefield” for the Lord! Her favorite scriptures are Jeremiah 29:11 and Galatians 5:1. 

Sister Tyiska retired from a career in Higher Education where she worked at both Western Michigan and Cornell Universities as instructor and administrator. She is a Certified Dean, National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc,. She also serves as Dean for the  Second Baptist Leadership Institute, Associate Dean SVBDA and Certified Instructor. 


At Second Baptist she serves as Worship Leader, Sunday School teacher, and with the Mission.

Dean Denise loves teaching the Word of God and is excited about sharing it.

Reverend Albert Haynes, Jr. 

Pastor, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church

Rev. Albert Haynes, Jr. is the Pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and the Christian Education Congress President for Saginaw Valley Baptist District Association.  He actively works in both ministries. 


Pastor Haynes is a dedicated husband, father and grandfather.

Reverend Dr. Roy Manning

Pastor, Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church

Rev. Dr. Roy L. Manning, Sr. is a native of Lamont, Mississippi and husband of Beatrice Manning (51 yrs).  He is the father of three children and grandfather of five. He is the Pastor of Corinthian MBC, Saginaw (28 years), and  editor of the CMBC Informer (10 yrs). 


Dr. Manning is a retired educator (34 yrs.) of the Saginaw Public Schools.  He has a B.S. Degree from Lane College, M.A. Degree from Central Michigan University. He has earned over 45 graduate hours beyond the M.A. During his career with the Saginaw Public Schools, and served in numerous capacities, including: teacher, coach, attendance counselor and Vice-Principal of Central Middle School.


Reverend Manning has also received many awards & recognitions since leaving Lane College in 1968:

  • Doctor of Humane Letters, Tennessee School of Religion, May 8, 2015

  • The Governor’s Award in 1979, Michigan

  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Award 2007, Michigan

  • Following 34 years of service in the Saginaw Public Schools, the Gymnasium of Central Middle School was named in Pastor Manning’s honor

  • Legends in Education Recognition/Award, Honoree of the year 2007, Saginaw Valley Baptist District. 

In addition, his involvement is not limited to the Church he pastors. Reverend Manning also serves in the following capacities:

  • Moderator of Saginaw Valley Baptist District Association

  • President of Wolverine State Missionary Baptist Convention

  • Former instructor for Wolverine State Pastors’ and Wives Retreat

  • Past Vice-President of the Wolverine State Missionary Baptist Convention and Congress of Christian Education

  • Past President of Saginaw Valley District Congress of Christian Education and Local Ministers

  • Member of Concerned Baptist Pastors of Saginaw, Michigan

  • Certified instructor National Baptist Congress, National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.

  • Member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

  • Silver Life Member of the NAACP and Present Chaplain of Saginaw Branch of NAACP

  • Officer & Life Member of Lane College National Alumni Association


Pastor Manning’s favorite passage of Scripture is Philippians 3:13-14…

  “I count not myself to have apprehended; but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
